Romp Amp Review: Sexmas Day Seven

Christmas may be over, but Sexmas continues! We’re in that period of the year that I’ve taken to calling the Festive Perineum after seeing that term on social media last year. It’s a perfect description for that liminal space between Christmas and New Year’s. Fitting for this period of time, I’m reviewing the Romp Amp, an anal beads toy to really amp up the fun.

First Impressions

Like the Romp Riot I reviewed a few days ago, the Amp comes in bright, cheerful packaging with an illustration of the product on the front.

The Amp comes with just some instructions and a smile. No extraneous fluff here.

The Amp is like a cross between anal beads and a plug. The packaging says “anal beads,” and there are definitely three bead-like bumps on the silicone stem, but the Amp also has a long, narrow base like a plug rather than a ring or similar device common to anal beads.

The Amp is about as long as my palm and very flexible. When you hold it upright, it wobbles to and fro.

With a rich purple color and a soft-touch silicone exterior, the Amp is a delight to hold.

But we all know that’s not the purpose of the Amp.

In Use

The Amp is a really nice sized toy. While the length is several inches, the beads start small and only get moderately bigger, making it easy to insert. I was worried that the flexibility of the toy would make it difficult to insert, but it was quite easy.

Because the Amp is made from silicone, you need a water-based lubricant. Silicone lubricants will degrade silicone toys. The anus is not self-lubricating, so lube is an absolute must.

Once inserted, the Amp is quite comfortable. The base is long but fairly narrow, making it sit nicely in place. I prefer anal toys with this kind of base rather than a round base, since this kind of base doesn’t dig in on the sides. This would probably be a comfortable toy to wear for extended periods of play, or just to make household chores a little more fun.

I paired the Amp with another toy for vaginal use, since my preferred method of play for anal toys is in conjunction with another toy. I think the name “Amp” really speaks to this preference: it amps up other types of sex play. When using a vibrator, the Amp transmitted vibrations nicely. It created a pleasant “full” feeling that amplifies sexual sensations.

As a cross between anal beads and a plug, the Amp can either be left in place for the duration of sexual play or pulled out right at the moment of climax, heightening the pleasure. Dealer’s choice! Both are great.

Kudos and Caveats

Kudos for aesthetics. The packaging is friendly and the rich purple color is lovely.

Kudos for having the design of anal beads mixed with the sturdy base of a plug. This allows folks to enjoy the best of all worlds.

Caveat: Make sure you use water-based lube!

Kudos for size. The Amp’s gradually increasing bead sizes means you’ll feel the toy in place, but it’s small enough to be comfortable and accessible to beginners and those who don’t like to feel stretched. The caveat on the other side of this kudo, of course, is that you’re not going to get a very stretched feeling from the Amp if that’s what you like.

Kudos for an amazing price point. Like the Riot, the Amp is ridiculously cheap! It’s only $15.99, making it an excellent choice for those taking a risk on a new type of toy.

Final Thoughts

The Romp Amp is another excellent product in Romp’s line of budget-friendly high-quality sex toys. If you’ve been considering an anal toy, or just want another to add to your collection, you should invest in the Amp. It’s a perfect time of year to Amp up the fun!
