More of a Bee: Fondlove Butterfly Vibrator Review

I love the idea of “wearable” vibrators, and discreet vibrators made to be used for public play. Even if I don’t always want to try them in public, the option is fun. I was excited to do a butterfly vibrator review for Fondlove, a company who contacted me about trying their products. While the butterfly vibrator is attempting to do some pretty fun things, ultimately, it’s just not a toy for me.

Out of the Box

The Fondlove butterfly vibrator came, for me, in a box that’s entirely written in Chinese.

Fortunately, even though I don’t speak the language, there are some pretty fun cartoons to let me know that this is a sex product. I’m not gonna lie; I love cartoons like this…

…even if this is not a vibrator to be worn during sex. Unless you’re having anal sex. I guess that’s valid.

The butterfly vibrator itself comes in a plastic insert with a remote control.

Out of the package, the butterfly vibrator is a silicone toy with an insertable dildo-like protrusion and a raised bump for clitoral stimulation. Both the internal piece and the external part have raised bumps to help transmit the vibration. Here it is from two sides, plus my thumb for scale.

The bottom of the toy has the controls as well as the charging port.

Even though you stick the charger through the silicone, it’s still a 100% waterproof toy.

When my husband saw this, he said, “Do they know what a butterfly looks like?” Frankly, I think it’s more of a flukeworm.

Although there’s a button on the bottom of the toy, it’s designed to work with the remote control.

This little remote is adorable, and it also comes pre-set with a watch battery.

Into My Box

I was eager to try this toy. It is intelligently designed: there’s a raised bump internally for the g-spot, and another raised bump on the outside for the clitoris. Seems like a great combination.

Sadly, once I turned it on, I found the vibrations incredibly buzzy. Instead of a butterfly, this toy buzzes like a bee. Buzzy vibration differs from rumbly vibration in intensity: buzzy vibration stimulates the nerves at the surface of the skin, but it doesn’t travel far internally. It’s a shallower sensation, and I have been spoiled by rumbly vibrations.

In addition, the core vibrator is situated in the internal portion of the toy. It transmits vibrations all throughout its length and to the external clit area. Unfortunately, those vibrations get diffused. For me, I can’t get nearly enough clit stimulation to get off, even when I press on the outside of the toy. The vibrations are just too superficial.

Furthermore, the remote control was not effective for me. If I rested my arm on the bed next to me, my leg was enough to block the signal. I could get signal only by holding the remote a few inches from my vulva and above my body. If I went more than a foot away, even with no body parts between the remote and the inserted toy, it wouldn’t register. I had to keep that remote so close, it might as well not be a remote at all.

Who Is This Toy Good For?

Whenever I don’t like a toy personally, I try to post about who might like it. My body is not your body, and everyone has different preferences. Here are some traits that might make the butterfly vibrator a good option for you:

  • You’re on a budget. The butterfly vibrator is only $21, which makes it a budget option for most people. If you don’t know if you’re going to like it or not, you’re not shelling out $80 or more. It’s not a big investment.
  • You like buzzy vibes. Surface vibrations might do it for you! If that’s the case, this is a good option.
  • You like the idea of discreet public play and don’t really care if you get off or not. Sometimes, making the fantasy real is the most important thing. The butterfly vibrator is decently quiet, and if you’re in a noisy space, no one’s gonna hear it. Granted, you’ll have to hold the remote real close, but that might not be a problem.
  • You don’t need clit stimulation to get off. This vibrator does provide some clit stim through diffused vibrations, but that’s not where you’ll feel most of the vibrations. Maybe this is okay for you!
  • You want to stick it up your bum. The butterfly vibrator is anal-safe and probably real fun to use that way. Also, buzzy vibes vs. rumbly vibes are sometimes nice for anal use. As always, your mileage may vary.
  • You need your internal vibrators on the narrower side. The insertable portion of this toy is about the size of a thumb, just longer. That might be ideal for you. While most vibrators are larger than this, you might want something smaller for any number of reasons. The butterfly is a narrower toy and many users may find that ideal.

Final Thoughts

This toy does have a lot of nice design features, as I mentioned: it’s silicone, waterproof, and aims to stimulate both internally and externally. It’s inexpensive and safe for vaginal or anal play. Sadly, the low range of the remote and the type of vibrations make it a no-go for me. This butterfly buzzes like a bee, and so I must turn it aside.

If you’d like to try the butterfly vibrator for yourself, you can purchase one through Fondlove.
