O-Ring Gag Review: Open Your Mouth and Say…Nothing

It’s been a little while since I reviewed any kink-specific products in here. If you’ve forgotten that part of my brand, welcome back! We’re getting kinky up in here with the O-Ring Gag from RoomFun. This o-ring gag review talks about a high-quality product that certainly isn’t for everyone, but if it’s for you, is definitely worth the money.

About Gags

There are many different kinds of gags depending on you and your partner’s goal for playing together. This is not an exhaustive list, but it includes some of the most popular gags.

  • Ball gags consist of a round ball that fits inside the mouth, usually made of plastic or silicone. Some (the safest kind) have holes in them to facilitate breathing.
  • Penis gags include a shaft of some kind that fits in the mouth.
  • Open-Mouth Gags keep the mouth open, usually in kink play for purposes of oral sex. Spider gags and o-ring gags (like the one in this review) are open mouth gags. The ring is commonly silicone or metal.
  • Bit gags look like a bit from a horse’s bridle. Similar to a ball gag, but smaller, the bit gag fits between the teeth and is usually made of silicone or rubber.
  • Muzzle gags fit over the whole head with multiple straps. Usually they include something to go in the mouth as well as a panel over it. Sometimes the muzzle is fashioned to look like an animal head for pet play, but there are plain muzzle gags as well.

Are gags for me? If so, which one(s)?

Gags can be very fun! The idea of being “forced” to remain quiet during play can bring a tantalizing thrill to any encounter. If you’re considering playing with gags, I’d recommend starting with a ball gag or bit gag and see if you like the feeling. Open-mouth gags, like the one I’m reviewing here, are not a great first gag for someone. They are, however, delightful for those who enjoy certain types of sensation.

A Note About Consent

Most gags muffle or silence speech. This hinders the gagged person’s ability to say “no” verbally. When you’re playing with gags, it’s important that you have a silent safeword: this might be making any noise three times, or tapping your partner, or ringing a bell, etc. It’s important to check consent all the time but especially during sex or kink play, and especially especially when one partner is gagged.

O-Ring Gag: Out of the Box

The o-ring gag I’m reviewing comes in a small, sleek black box that looks like it might be a glasses case if I didn’t know any better.

When you open the box, the gag is neatly arrayed. with the ring in the center and the straps folded beneath it.

It comes with a little business card that has the RoomFun title, an image of the gag, and a brief first person blurb about submission.

Everything about the gag is high quality: the metal is smooth and even, and the leather straps are thin but supple. While I’m not the biggest fan of gold over silver, the gold looks very nice against the black.

Here are some shots of the ring itself, angled so you can better see the small rounded “tongue depressor” attachment.

I measured the O-ring itself, because that’s important info to have both for the size of your mouth and to know if you can fit a certain penis or dildo through it. The diameter of the open part of the circle is 1 5/8″.

The attachment points at the edges of the straps and the buckle are all high quality.

The Gag In Use

I need to preface this by saying I really like gags, but I learned with this that o-ring gags are not for me. I do not like the open mouth feeling. That said, I tried the o-ring gag out enough to give it a fair review.

The ring fits nicely behind the teeth, and it’s smooth, so it won’t cut your mouth. You don’t really have the range to move your jaw much once it’s in place, so there’s little danger of chipping a tooth or something. Your teeth aren’t really contacting the metal at all.

The tongue depressor is likewise very smooth, and it’s short enough to hold the tongue in place without being long enough to trigger a gag reflex (at least for me).

The buckle attaches and unhooks smoothly, so it’s very easy to fasten and unfasten. It’s a standard buckle, not the loop kind that can fit a padlock. I found that the straps weren’t long enough to fasten over the top of my ears, but if I fastened them down at the base of my skull, it fits fine.

Final Thoughts

The o-ring gag from Roomfun is a high quality open mouth gag that looks and feels elegant and expensive. It’s moderately priced for a metal-and-leather gag: currently it’s $51.99 on Roomfun, but the site owners have generously given an incredible 60% discount with the code Elia60. I think that makes it cheap enough to buy even if you’re not sure if you’ll like it. If you’re interested in gags but the o-ring gag isn’t your speed, Roomfun also has several other mouth gags of different types, including a couple of ball gags. Gags can be a fun addition to your kinky play, and the o-ring gag is a quality option.

I received this product in exchange for my honest review. This is a sponsored post, but that does not affect the honesty of my review. Affiliate links are not being used in this post.
