Lelo Boomerang Review: Lovely, Not Revolutionary

It’s almost the unofficial start of summer, and we’re under a sudden heat wave here in Massachusetts. At times like these, there’s nothing better than relaxing in a dark room with a good toy and a cool fan…and maybe a friend as well. The Lelo Boomerang is a double-ended insertable vibrator designed for these kind of partnered adventures. I tested the Boomerang solo, but I feel confident in being able to review its potential. It’s an aesthetically pleasing toy with effective vibrator motors. At the same time, it’s not sending me over the moon.

Let’s get into it.

First Impressions

Lelo’s black box and clear product window remain consistent to the brand. The gold lettering lets you know you’re getting something fancy.

Here is the Boomerang out of its package. It comes with a black storage bag, charging cable, instructions, and lube.

Also, since I accidentally had my phone camera in Portrait mode, it’s dramatic on an artfully blurred background.

Here are some shots of the Boomerang from various angles.

The Boomerang is made of a soft silicone and slightly ribbed for texture. It has three buttons: a center button for power and patterns, as well as + and – buttons to control intensity. As you can see in the last picture, it has some flexibility to bend the ends up, although they do not stay that way.

Pretty, right? Now let’s talk function.

In Use

Firstly, Lelo has quality products and the Boomerang is no exception. The Boomerang has strong, rumbly motors that effectively deliver vibrations to the ends of the toy. It feels soft in hand, and the vibrators are nearly silent.

There are two vibrators, one on each end, but the buttons control them both together. Certain patterns alternate the vibration between the two ends, but you can’t, say, increase the vibration on just one end independently of the other. That’s a quibble that I think would annoy me if I were using this toy with a partner. We both have to settle on the same intensity.

I don’t want to come off like a size queen here, but I found the tapered width of the Boomerang somewhat unsatisfying. The entrance to the vagina has the most nerve endings of its entire length, so more pressure/width there feels the best. Aesthetically, it looks nice to have the Boomerang taper toward the middle, but it affects the amount of stimulation I get. I just don’t feel very much with that taper. The more significant girth is internal. It’s a slender toy all around, which will be useful for those who don’t like thicker toys, but it wasn’t a great match for me.

You can control the toy using the three buttons or the Lelo app. If using this toy with a partner, I imagine it would be tricky getting a hand in between to find the buttons, but I made do. The app is functional and easy to connect to, but the features aren’t really useful for me beyond “manual.” As I discussed in my Lelo Switch review, the patterns have names that don’t really identify what they do, and several control options involve shaking or tilting the phone. Two bonus settings, “Finish me Off” and “Out of Control” vary their intensity in a way that’s super fun, so the app might be worth it for those.

Kudos and Caveats

Kudos for strong, rumbly vibrations. At the heart of the matter, the motors are not going to let you down.

Additional kudos for waterproofing. If you like to play in the bath or shower, you’ll be all set.

Caveat: I wish the motors were independently controlled, although I’m not sure how realistic that would be. For me, controlling the toy falls under the caveat column, since the buttons are almost at the insertable area and the app has extra features that hinder its usability.

Kudos for aesthetics. It’s such a lovely toy.

Mixed bag for the toy’s size. For some who like a more slender, approachable toy, the Boomerang is ideal. For those who like a bit more girth, or at least more girth near the base of the toy, you won’t find it here.

Caveat: price. Lelo is a luxury vibrator brand, and at over $200, the Boomerang’s price point falls squarely into the luxury bracket.

Kudos for a toy that’s made for two partners who each want to insert something together. I don’t want that awesomeness to go unnoticed.

Final Thoughts

I love reviewing for Lelo, and I appreciate that they’re trying new things with their products all the time. The Boomerang is an effective double-ended vibrator with beautiful aesthetics. I have quibbles with its size and some design choices, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad product at all. It just didn’t blow me away. If you’re looking for a double-ended vibrator to use with a special someone in your life, though, the Boomerang might be worth a try. You can buy it directly from Lelo.
