An EVEN ODDS Preview: National Masturbation Month Day 2

It’s May 2nd, the second day of National Masturbation Month. Have you been celebrating so far? I hope you’re enjoying lots of solo-fun time as the month starts up.

Thank you to the 109 people who responded to yesterday’s #MasturbationMonth Twitter survey asking your preferred method for external clitoral stimulation. The winner was “multiple fingers” with 31% of the vote, narrowly edging out “It’s gotta be a vibrator” which took home 30%. You’ll all be primed for the upcoming discussion of sex toys later this month.

Angry Strumming
This is not how to deal with a clitoris.

Yesterday, I gave some hints about the month ahead on the blog and mentioned how much I enjoy including masturbation scenes in my books. In fact, I’m pretty sure that every one of my books (including the three Slices of Pi books releasing this summer) includes at least one masturbation scene.

So speaking of the Slices of Pi trilogy and self-love, below is a sneak preview from Book 1, Even Odds, an erotic romance releasing July 4th from Simon & Schuster’s Pocket Star line. Be sure you scroll down below, because I’ve linked today’s Twitter survey at the bottom of the post.

Even Odds CoverAs a design manager at PI Games, Isabel Suarez is no stranger to the struggles of being a woman in a male-dominated industry. But when her team attends a gaming convention on the other side of the country, she figures there’s no harm in putting aside her professional demeanor for one weekend to participate in a risqué scavenger hunt. Why shouldn’t she let loose and have a little fun?

A careless romp soon turns into more, however, when Isabel ends up having a fling with Caleb Portland, an artist and animator, without knowing he has just been hired to partner with her at her company—and Caleb can’t bring himself to tell her. When they end up coworkers a few weeks later, they need to find a way to work together and keep things strictly professional. Caleb doesn’t want to take on a relationship and risk failure. Isabel doesn’t want to risk ruining the professional reputation she’s worked so hard to develop. But when faced with the undeniable sizzling chemistry between them, will either of them be able to resist temptation?

EVEN ODDS: An Excerpt

The king-sized bed sank beneath Isabel with a kind of plush luxury, a unique combination of thick down comforter and pillow-top mattress that cocooned her in sweet warmth. Her black curls had gone frizzy on the long airplane ride, and they spread out across the pillow like some sort of wild animal that needed to be tamed. Or maybe not tamed, she mused as she wrapped an errant strand around her finger. Maybe she should just let her curls run wild this weekend.

Maybe she should let herself run wild this weekend. It had been far too long since she’d had a fun weekend, and even though she was here for PI Games, she’d have plenty of time to run amok if she so desired. She could have some anonymous fling, fuck the hell out of some strange man, and fly back home on Monday with no one the wiser. Isabel felt a rush of adrenaline at the thought and licked her lips. One-night-stands were out of character for her. She was a relationship kind of girl, even though her relationships never seemed to work out. She chose safe guys, guys her mother would like, guys who were ultimately too boring to give her the challenge she needed. Maybe she should throw all that away and sleep with a stranger, just let herself go entirely for a few days and see where it led.

Isabel dug in the nightstand drawer and pulled out her Hitachi. After unfastening her jeans, she pushed them and her silk underwear down her hips, all the way to her ankles, and spread her knees to the side. Better not to undress all the way, in case she was disturbed, plus it was more illicit this way, out in the open where anyone could find her. The Magic Wand was loud, the buzz probably carrying if these walls were anything but soundproof, and it would be smarter to get under the covers. Right then, though, Isabel didn’t care about smart. She was never reckless, but this weekend, maybe she’d give recklessness a try. Staying on top of the comforter, she brought the wand’s large round head to her clit.

As soon as the vibrator made contact, she stopped caring about anything else. She shouldn’t be this turned on, not really, not enough that she felt herself dripping wet, just from contemplating a one-night stand. Apparently recklessness agreed with her. She closed her thighs, holding the vibrator tightly in place, and rolled onto her side. She loved using the toy like this, letting her body hold it steady, rocking her hips to rub against it. The pressure was intense, nearly unbearable, and she had to work consciously to keep from crying out. The orgasm tore through her after only a few minutes, her mind going blank with stimulation, and she muffled her cries with a hand over her mouth. She quickly turned off the vibrator, the overstimulation easily becoming too much, and lay back on the bed with a sigh.

For a moment, Isabel just lay there with her heart pounding, expecting a knock at the door that never came. After she had caught her breath, she wiped down her vibrator, unplugged it, and tucked it into the nightstand drawer, right next to the Bible the Gideons had thoughtfully left for her in case she wanted to pray the sexy away. Then she slipped her jeans back on and got up. Her head felt clearer now, her body more relaxed, but she could still feel an underlying tension. Masturbation wasn’t going to cut it this time.

She wanted a fling.
