Dodil Dildo Review: The Fifth Day of Dicksmas

This Dodil dildo review celebrates one of the most fun and innovative toys I’ve played with in a while. For the Fifth Day of Dicksmas, Luvoqa gave to me… a Dodil dildo under the tree!

Actually, in my vagina. Not under the tree. I wanted it to rhyme.

By the way, if you aren’t doing the math, I am: these days of Dicksmas will not be finished by Christmas. But that’s okay! Dicksmas is not limited to any one winter holiday. Plus, the actual twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas, rather than ending on Christmas.

So let’s begin, shall we? There are a lot of cool things happening here.

The Backstory

Luvoqa contacted me a couple of months ago to say that they had a new review toy available from Europe, and asked if I’d like to try something called the Dodil. They sent me information, and I started to do my own research. Turns out, the Dodil – an anagram of the word Dildo, if you didn’t realize that – is a reshapable dildo. You use hot water to make the dildo soft, shape it however you want, and then let it cool.

Neat idea, right? It took me almost no time at all to reply and say, “Hell yes! Send me one.” A few weeks later, the Dodil arrived.

Out of the… Thermos

I have made a lot of jokes about fucking a thermos, and by “a lot” I mean “more than one,” since pretty much any more than one joke about fucking a thermos is a lot. The Dodil comes in a thermos. Not a thermos you can put soup in – I don’t know; maybe you can? – but a thermos for heatin’ up some DICK.

Dodil thermos

It looks like in innocuous thermos! Very nondescript. (Note: You can buy the Dodil without the thermos, too.)

Dodil lid

My Dodil thermos lid came dented. I don’t mind, since mine is a review copy, but I would probably be bummed if I bought this as a gift. Mine came from overseas, so hopefully it wouldn’t get so banged up during domestic shipping. The box was in pretty rough shape, too, when it arrived. Someone in customs must have been like, “What is this dick in a thermos? WHAT IS IT?”

It’s a Dodil, friend.

Dodil in thermos

Surprise! There’s the Dodil in its happy thermos house. If you look closely, you can see the instruction booklet tucked inside along with an orange silicone cord.

Dodil in hand

Straight out of the package, here is the Dodil. It’s a decent-sized dildo, and it’s pretty damn firm. It feels like a silicone dildo with a very firm core. (Spoiler alert: that’s what it is.)

Dodil top

The top of my Dodil came with an ink smudge that no amount of cleaning seemed to remove.

Dodil base

The base of the Dodil is easily identifiable by the lower case “d” of the logo, and (in my case) by the lack of an ink smudge.

Back Into the Thermos

The Dodil works by soaking in hot water. It’s got a core of thermoplastic, aka heat-activated plastic, and the entire body of the Dodil is coated in silicone. The thermoplastic, when cold, is quite firm. When soaked in hot water, though, it becomes very soft and pliable.

The process is pretty straightforward: drop the Dodil into the thermos, d-side up, and pour boiling water into the thermos until it’s full. Put the lid on and leave it for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, pour out half the water, then remove the Dodil and shape. (I’ve got a video later in this post! Stay tuned.)

Shaping

Shaping the Dodil was really fun. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the Dodil gets really flexible after its soak in hot water. It’s like a big blue sea cucumber. When I took it out of the water, it flopped all over the place, all except the solid plastic base. After running the Dodil under cold water (as directed) to help speed the setting process, I set about shaping it using my hands and the enclosed silicone orange cord. I thought I might need to move fast, like the Dodil would set any minute, but… it didn’t. It stayed soft for the entire time of shaping, and according to the paperwork, it would stay soft for about 20 minutes.

Dodil wrapped

Here is my Dodil, all trussed up like a lucky rope bottom. Note that I had to tie off the cord at the top and really, really wrap it at the bottom. Damn silicone cord kept wanting to unwrap itself.

Dodil after shaping

Here is the Dodil after it cooled. It took about a half hour to completely set, but once it was set, the toy had the same firm consistency as when it first came out of the package. The only difference is that now, it was shaped to my liking!

Into my… Thermos Vagina

After spending all this time shaping the Dodil, I was excited to actually use it. I was also skeptical: would this toy really hold up along with the best of my dildos? Was it mostly appealing because of the novelty, or would it function as a functional toy?

Rest assured, the Dodil works wonderfully as a dildo.

After fucking myself with various and sundry objects since my teenage years, I have a pretty good sense of what my vagina likes. I chose this initial shape for my Dodil because I know I like some deep penetration, a-spot stimulation, and thickness near the base of a toy. With most dildos, I can get a deep curve for g-spot or a-spot stimulation, but manufacturers often sacrifice width at the base for width at the head. With the Dodil, I could keep that width at the base and still have a good curve for internal stimulation.

I was surprise at how thick the Dodil felt on penetration. It felt solid and stayed that way. I’d been concerned that if I kept it in my 98.6 degree vagina, it would start to soften. I can’t boil water in this pussy, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t warm. Rest assured, readers. The Dodil does not get soft with body heat. It stayed completely firm for my extended play session. Apparently, according to their website, you can also use the Dodil in a steaming hot bath and not have it change shape. It needs 158 degrees Fahrenheit to soften.

I loved having the custom-shaped Dodil, and I had a ton of fun playing with it. My orgasm was glorious. Afterward, I was able to easily clean off the Dodil in the sink, since (of course) it’s waterproof.

Reshaping

One of the Dodil’s best qualities is that once you shape it, you aren’t locked into that shape at all. By going through the heating process again, the Dodil returns to its neutral shape and can be reformed however you’d like.

To complete this blog post, I knew I was going to need to videotape the process of shaping the Dodil. It’s too unique not to share with all of you. But… I really liked my current shape! I hit on something I enjoyed, and I had to sacrifice that for the blog.

OH, THE HUMANITY.

These are the sacrifices I make for you folks.

So, I went through the shaping process again and recorded it. One little detail, which you can see on the video, is that I couldn’t put the lid on the Dodil thermos after pouring in the hot water. I had stretched out the Dodil on my first shaping, and it no longer fit perfectly in the thermos. I rested the cap on top and put a dish towel over it to keep the heat in, After about twenty minutes, it had softened enough that I could put the lid on for the last ten minutes of heating time.

Sure enough, the Dodil came out in its same neutral sea cucumber floppiness as the first heating, and I could reshape it again. For the record, it was just as fun the second time. And I found another shape that I like! If I hadn’t needed to reshape it for this blog, I might have kept that first shape and not enjoyed the full range of experimentation the Dodil allows.

Watch it happen here:

Cheers and Caveats

Three cheers for the Dodil itself. What an amazing toy: a reshapable dildo that lets you experiment to find the stimulation you like. This reminds me of when I used to make dildos for myself out of Sculpey modeling clay, which is totally not body safe. (I probably gave future-me cancer. But we all do stupid things when we’re young.) I read a fellow sex blogger’s list of toys she’d take onto a desert island, and she listed the Dodil. After using it, I get it. It’s a ton of dildos in one. You don’t ever have to get bored, because you can always try a new angle or shape. One hour after your idea, you can already be fucking yourself with that idea. How cool is that?

Also, cheers to Dodil for making a reshapable dildo that is thick enough to feel. I imagined that in the process of stretching out and angling the Dodil, it was going to get thin and be barely noticeable. But it’s not. It’s girthy. I can add length and still end up with a thick toy. Also, I can compress it and get a lot of girth if I want it.

I don’t have any real caveats with the Dodil. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure dildo, so you can do most things with it. There’s a set of pictograms depicting how not to deal with your Dodil – don’t fold it all the way in half, don’t cut it, etc – but it’s nearly limitless beyond these common sense items. There is a small note that if cracks appear in the surface, you need to resoak it in the hot water. If you let it harden with those cracks, you can damage your toy permanently. This made me really hesitant on first shaping, but after flopping it around, I realized I could do quite a lot with it. I have yet to see any cracks.

This isn’t really a caveat, but the Dodil is not naturally suited to anal play. The toy doesn’t have a flared base at all. I suppose it would be possible to create a deep enough groove above the base that it serves as a flare. I did some research, and the Dodil people recommend you either build a 45 degree bend in the dildo to avoid it slipping inside, or tie the string around the base to make a deep groove, and then leave a few inches of string hanging so if it slips inside, you can use the string to guide it back out. You should decide what your acceptable level of risk is and keep that in mind.

Final Thoughts

I thought the Dodil would be a fun novelty, but I wasn’t sure it would live up to its potential. Although I know what I like, but I didn’t know that the Dodil would be able to match what I pictured. In this case, it’s fun to be wrong. The Dodil does have repeat appeal: that is its main draw. It lives up to its potential in so many ways. It’s surprisingly shapeable, and I’m sure with other tools (maybe rubber bands?) I can shape it into a whole bunch of new forms. Art and sex! I’m into it.

The Dodil is a great toy for dildo experts and newbies alike, and that is a pretty hard claim to make with most dildos! If you have never played with a dildo before, you can try a bunch of new combinations with this until you find one you like. Rather than buying a bunch of dildos and hoping one of them works for you, you can buy one Dodil and reshape it over and over again. If you’re a dildo expert, you can take the qualities you like from a bunch of different dildos and apply them to the shaping process for CUSTOM DILDO MAGIC.

Thanks to Luvoqa and Dodil for letting me try this amazing product.
